It’s time to start preparing for our upcoming school camp! The Year 5/6s are going to Canberra for four nights to visit a range of important sites in our nation’s capital. This is an exciting time for your child and for us as teachers. From the start of the school year we will be starting to talk about this with your child, answering any questions they may have and getting them excited about the fantastic experience that lay ahead.
We will be travelling by bus and departing from St Kilda Park Primary School on Monday 7th March, arriving at 6:15am for departure at 6:30am. We arrive back at school at approximately 5:00pm on Friday 11th March. The aim of the camp is to enhance students understanding and skills in Australian History, Politics and Economics. These activities reinforce what is taught at school. Students will also be develop team work, working in a different learning environment and viewing life, culture and history in the national capital. Students will be able to experience our national capital in action through visits to Parliament House, The High Court of Australia, The Australian War Memorial and much more, sampling what the city of Canberra has to offer. As our camp in happening so early in the school year, it is important that we have the relevant paperwork returned and payments made as soon as possible. Full Department of Education paperwork including a Parent Excursion Consent form and a Confidential Medical Information Form will be sent home with your child next Tuesday (the first day of term). Please complete these with as much detail as possible and return them to your child’s class teacher by Friday 4th February. We are asking all Year 5/6 parents to logon to Compass School Manager https://skipps-vic.compass.education/ to make online payment of $715 for the camp. As always, we are very keen for all students to attend camp and are happy to discuss support and flexible payment options for any families who need financial help. We do not want any child to miss out for financial reasons. Please contact Neil on neil.scott@education.vic.gov.au to discuss. Further details, including a packing list will be sent home in the next fortnight. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact the 5/6 team if you have any further queries. We look forward to Happy Camping! |
